Over a prolonged period of 5 years Hennessey had the privilege of being involved across a number of phases and plots of the Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park.
TSK and Acciona provided the specialist solar panels, and Hennessey worked well with them in order to make all projects a huge success. It is a testament to our ability to foster good and productive relationships.
Hennessey was awarded the contract to complete all civil works. These were varied and extensive. Each phase included the construction of substations and control rooms as well as steel structure warehouses. The substations were a concrete frame structure with associated mechanical and electrical works. Hennessey also undertook the construction of inverter slabs and oil manholes, perimeter fencing, CCTV installation, storage building, cable ducts and a pump room.
Each site is 3 ½ kms long by 1 ½ wide so stretched over a vast area as well as being in the middle of the desert. This presented many logistical considerations including transporting staff over the distance of the site, coordinating the transport of incoming heavy plant and machinery due to road timings. Sand and thunder storms would disrupt operations whenever they occurred therefore this required proper onsite management. First aid stations, welfare facilities and ambulances were all maintained onsite due to the distance.
During the project Hennessey and Spanish company, TSK, were proud to achieve 1.5 million man safe hours and an onsite ceremony was held to celebrate the milestone
